ELECTRONIC DEVICE FOR DISPLAYING IMAGE BY USING CAMERA MONITORING SYSTEM (CMS) SIDE DISPLAY MOUNTED IN VEHICLE, AND OPERATION METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17951623 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE FOR DISPLAYING IMAGE BY USING CAMERA MONITORING SYSTEM (CMS) SIDE DISPLAY MOUNTED IN VEHICLE, AND OPERATION METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method and electronic device for switching the view of an image displayed on a camera monitoring system (CMS) side display in a vehicle.

  • The electronic device displays a first image representing the surrounding environment of the vehicle on the CMS side display.
  • It detects a lane change signal from the vehicle.
  • In response to the detected lane change signal, it switches the first image to a second image representing a top view image of the vehicle and its surrounding vehicles as if looking down from above.
  • The second image is then displayed on the CMS side display.
  • A lane change user interface (UI) is also displayed on the second image, providing information about whether a lane change is possible.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Automotive industry: This technology can be used in vehicles to provide drivers with a better view of their surroundings, especially during lane changes, improving safety and reducing accidents.
  • Transportation systems: It can be implemented in public transportation systems to assist drivers in maneuvering large vehicles and avoiding blind spots.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Limited visibility during lane changes: The technology solves the problem of limited visibility by providing a top view image that allows drivers to see the locations of their vehicle and surrounding vehicles from above, reducing the risk of collisions.
  • Uncertainty during lane changes: The lane change user interface provides information about whether a lane change is possible, helping drivers make informed decisions and reducing the chances of unsafe maneuvers.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved safety: By providing a better view of the surroundings and information about lane changes, this technology can help prevent accidents and improve overall road safety.
  • Enhanced driving experience: Drivers can have a more confident and comfortable driving experience with improved visibility and assistance during lane changes.
  • Efficient lane changes: The technology can help optimize lane change maneuvers by providing real-time information about the possibility of changing lanes, reducing traffic congestion and improving traffic flow.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method, performed by an electronic device installed in a vehicle, of switching a view of an image displayed on a camera monitoring system (CMS) side display, and an electronic device are provided. The disclosure includes an electronic device for displaying, on a camera monitoring system (CMS) side display, a first image representing a surrounding environment image, detecting a lane change signal of the vehicle, and, in response to the detected lane change signal, switching the first image displayed on the CMS side display to a second image representing a top view image showing locations of the vehicle and a surrounding vehicle in a virtual image as looking down from above the vehicle, and displaying the second image, and displaying a lane change user interface (UI) indicating information about whether a lane change is possible on the second image, and an operation method thereof.
