RELAY OPERATION WITH ENERGY STATE MODES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17944073 titled 'RELAY OPERATION WITH ENERGY STATE MODES

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications, specifically focusing on a relay device that can detect and respond to changes in network energy states to optimize network coverage.

  • The relay device can detect when the network transitions from a first energy state mode to a second energy state mode with reduced coverage area.
  • Based on this detection, the relay device activates a relaying function to communicate with user equipment (UE) and network entities to relay transmissions within the reduced coverage area.
  • The relay device adjusts its operations based on its location relative to the reduced network coverage area to efficiently relay transmissions between the UE and network entities.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in:

  • Mobile networks to improve coverage and connectivity in areas with varying energy states.
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices to ensure reliable communication in changing network conditions.

Problems Solved

  • Addressing network coverage gaps in areas with reduced energy states.
  • Enhancing communication reliability and efficiency in dynamic network environments.

Benefits

  • Improved network coverage and connectivity in challenging environments.
  • Enhanced communication reliability for user equipment and network entities.
  • Optimal utilization of relay devices to optimize network performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A relay device may detect that a network has transitioned from a first energy state mode to a second energy state mode and the second energy state mode may be associated with a reduced network coverage area relative to a network coverage area associated with the first energy state mode. The relay device may activate a relaying function at the relay device based on detecting that the network has transitioned to the second energy state mode and a location of the relay device with respect to the reduced network coverage area. The relay device may communicate with a user equipment (UE) and a network entity of the network to relay transmissions between the UE and the network entity based at least in part on activating the relaying function.
