PEER-TO-PEER VEHICLE SHARING SYSTEM AND METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17938781 titled 'PEER-TO-PEER VEHICLE SHARING SYSTEM AND METHOD

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a peer-to-peer vehicle sharing method that involves receiving a request from a user to rent a vehicle, obtaining available vehicles and their availability periods, determining overlap with the user's requested rent time period, selecting a vehicle, and reserving it for the user.

  • User requests to rent a vehicle with a specified rent time period.
  • User provides inputs including the type of vehicle they own.
  • Available vehicles and their availability periods are obtained.
  • Overlap extent with user's requested rent time period is determined.
  • Vehicle is selected based on overlap extent and user inputs.
  • Selected vehicle is reserved for the user.

Potential Applications

The technology can be applied in various industries such as car rental services, ride-sharing platforms, and peer-to-peer vehicle sharing networks.

Problems Solved

1. Efficient matching of users with available vehicles based on their preferences. 2. Streamlining the process of renting vehicles through a peer-to-peer network.

Benefits

1. Increased convenience for users looking to rent vehicles. 2. Optimal utilization of available vehicles within a peer-to-peer sharing network.

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimizing vehicle rental services through peer-to-peer networks for improved user experience and operational efficiency.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be traditional car rental services where users rent vehicles through established companies rather than peer-to-peer networks.

Unanswered Questions

How does the method ensure the safety and security of the vehicles being rented?

The patent application does not provide details on the security measures in place to protect the vehicles during the rental period.

What are the potential challenges in implementing this method on a large scale?

The scalability and logistics of managing a large number of vehicle rentals through a peer-to-peer network are not addressed in the patent application.

Original Abstract Submitted

A peer-to-peer (P2P) vehicle sharing method is disclosed. The method includes receiving a request from a user to rent a vehicle. The request includes a rent time period. The method further includes receiving a plurality of inputs associated with the user. The plurality of inputs includes a vehicle type for the vehicle owned by the user. Responsive to receiving the request and the plurality of inputs, the method includes obtaining a set of available vehicles, and corresponding availability periods associated with the available vehicles. The method further includes determining a rent time period overlap extent with the available vehicles' availability periods. Based on the overlap extent determination and the plurality of inputs, the method includes selecting the rent vehicle from the set of available vehicles, and reserving the rent vehicle for the user.
