DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17937539 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display device that includes a special encapsulation layer to improve light emission efficiency. Here are the key points:

  • The display device has a light-emitting element layer and an encapsulation layer.
  • The encapsulation layer consists of a first inorganic film, a second inorganic film, and an organic film.
  • The first inorganic film has a refractive index between 1.5 and 1.7 at a wavelength between 380 nm and 500 nm.
  • The second inorganic film also has a refractive index between 1.5 and 1.7 at the same wavelength range.
  • The organic film is sandwiched between the first and second inorganic films and has a refractive index between 1.5 and 1.7 at the same wavelength range.
  • This combination of films in the encapsulation layer allows for high light transmittance and improves the overall light emission efficiency of the display device.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This technology can be used in various display devices such as televisions, smartphones, tablets, and computer monitors.
  • It can also be applied in wearable devices like smartwatches and augmented reality glasses.
  • The improved light emission efficiency can enhance the visual quality and brightness of the displays.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The encapsulation layer with the specific combination of films addresses the issue of low light emission efficiency in display devices.
  • It helps to minimize light loss and improve the overall brightness and clarity of the display.

Benefits of this technology:

  • The high light transmittance provided by the encapsulation layer results in improved light emission efficiency.
  • This leads to brighter and more vibrant displays with enhanced visual quality.
  • The technology can contribute to energy savings as the display devices can achieve the desired brightness with less power consumption.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes a light-emitting element layer and an encapsulation layer disposed on the light-emitting element layer. The encapsulation layer includes a first inorganic film having a first refractive index at a wavelength between about 380 nm and about 500 nm, the first refractive index being between about 1.5 and about 1.7, a second inorganic film disposed on the first inorganic film and having a second refractive index at a wavelength between about 380 nm and about 500 nm, the second refractive index being between about 1.5 and about 1.7, and an organic film disposed between the first inorganic film and the second inorganic film, and having a third refractive index at a wavelength between about 380 nm and about 500 nm, the third refractive index being between about 1.5 and about 1.7. Accordingly, the display device including the encapsulation layer with the high light transmittance may have the high light emission efficiency.
