DISPLAY DEVICE AND METHOD OF DRIVING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17936916 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE AND METHOD OF DRIVING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display device that includes various drivers and transistors to control the timing and voltage supply in order to achieve proper pixel display. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • The display device has a pixel with a transistor connected between two nodes.
  • An emission driver supplies an emission control signal to an emission control line.
  • A scan driver supplies four different scan signals to four scan lines.
  • A data driver supplies a data signal to a data line.
  • The first scan signal controls the timing of voltage supply to the first node.
  • The second scan signal controls the connection between the second node and the gate electrode of the first transistor.
  • The third scan signal controls the timing of voltage supply to the gate electrode of the first transistor.
  • The second scan signal overlaps with the first and third scan signals.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This display device can be used in various electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, televisions, and computer monitors.
  • It can also be utilized in wearable devices like smartwatches and augmented reality glasses.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The display device ensures proper timing and voltage supply to achieve accurate pixel display.
  • The overlapping of scan signals helps in synchronizing the different operations of the display device.

Benefits of this technology:

  • The display device provides improved image quality and clarity.
  • It allows for faster and more efficient display operations.
  • The overlapping of scan signals helps in reducing the complexity of the circuit design.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes a pixel including a first transistor connected between a first node and a second node, an emission driver supplying an emission control signal to an emission control line, a scan driver supplying first to fourth scan signals respectively to first to fourth scan lines, and a data driver supplying a data signal to a data line. The first scan signal controls a timing at which a voltage of a first power source is supplied to the first node, the second scan signal controls a timing at which the second node and a gate electrode of the first transistor are connected to each other, and the third scan signal controls a timing at which a voltage of a second power source is supplied to the gate electrode of the first transistor. The second scan signal overlaps the first scan signal and the third scan signal.
