DETERMINATION OF WIRELESS COVERAGE FOR A MOBILE DEVICE USING A ROUTE BASED COVERAGE MAP - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17933638 titled 'DETERMINATION OF WIRELESS COVERAGE FOR A MOBILE DEVICE USING A ROUTE BASED COVERAGE MAP

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a system where a server collects wireless network coverage information from crowdsourcing devices to create a wireless coverage map of an area. This map includes wireless coverage indications for different locations along various routes of travel, which can be sent to mobile devices for specific routes.

  • The server obtains wireless network coverage information from crowdsourcing devices.
  • The server creates a wireless coverage map of an area based on the collected information.
  • The wireless coverage map includes coverage indications for locations along different routes of travel.
  • Route-based coverage information, including wireless coverage indications, can be sent to mobile devices for specific routes.

Potential Applications

This technology could be used in:

  • Navigation apps to provide real-time wireless coverage information along routes.
  • Emergency response systems to ensure communication capabilities in affected areas.

Problems Solved

This technology addresses:

  • Lack of real-time wireless coverage information along specific routes.
  • Difficulty in assessing wireless network coverage in different locations.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include:

  • Improved communication reliability for mobile users.
  • Enhanced navigation experiences with up-to-date coverage information.

Potential Commercial Applications

A potential commercial application for this technology could be:

  • Integration into existing navigation apps to offer premium route-based coverage information.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art for this technology could be:

  • Systems that collect crowdsourced data for mapping purposes, but not specifically focused on wireless network coverage information.

Unanswered Questions

How does the server ensure the accuracy and reliability of the crowdsourced wireless network coverage information?

The system may use algorithms to cross-verify data from multiple sources and prioritize information from trusted devices.

What measures are in place to protect the privacy and security of users' data collected through crowdsourcing devices?

The system may anonymize data and adhere to strict privacy policies to safeguard users' information.

Original Abstract Submitted

In some implementations, a server may obtain wireless network coverage information from crowdsourcing devices, where the wireless network coverage information indicates characteristics of wireless network coverage at different locations along various routes of travel. The server may determine a wireless coverage map of an area based on the wireless network coverage information, where the wireless coverage map comprises, for locations along one or more routes of travel within the area, a respective wireless coverage indication indicative of a level of wireless coverage for wireless networks at the respective location. The server may send route-based coverage information to a mobile device for a particular route, where the route-based coverage information includes the respective wireless coverage indication, from the coverage map, for one or more locations along the particular route.
