One suitable aqueous fluid composition may comprise concentrated hydroiodic acid, an alkali metal iodide, and an alkali metal hypophosphite salt. The aqueous fluid compositions may be used in combination with a second treatment phase comprising a fluid composition comprising at least one acid gas capturing agent.
