Methods and Apparatus for Disabled HARQ Processes - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17919331 titled 'Methods and Apparatus for Disabled HARQ Processes

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for a User Equipment (UE) to transmit Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) feedback for data transmissions from a wireless network. HARQ is a mechanism used in wireless communication to ensure reliable data transmission.

  • The UE receives two data messages associated with different HARQ processes, where at least one of the processes is disabled.
  • The second data message is received after the first data message.
  • The UE selectively transmits HARQ feedback for each data message based on the enabled or disabled status of the corresponding HARQ process.
  • The timing of the feedback transmission is determined based on the order of the data messages and an out-of-order scheduling restriction.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Wireless communication systems
  • Mobile networks
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices
  • 5G and future generations of wireless networks

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Efficient utilization of network resources by selectively transmitting HARQ feedback only for enabled HARQ processes.
  • Handling out-of-order data message reception and ensuring timely feedback transmission.
  • Optimizing the overall performance and reliability of wireless communication systems.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved reliability and efficiency of data transmission in wireless networks.
  • Enhanced utilization of network resources by avoiding unnecessary feedback transmissions.
  • Better handling of out-of-order data message reception, reducing delays and improving overall system performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method for a UE () to transmit HARQ feedback for data transmissions from a wireless network is disclosed. The UE receives (), from the network, a first data message associated with a first HARQ process and a second data message associated with a second HARQ process. At least one of the first and second HARQ processes is disabled. The second data message is received after the first data message. The UE selectively transmits (), at a first occasion after the first data message, first HARQ feedback for the first data message based on whether the first HARQ process is enabled or disabled. The UE selectively transmits, at a second occasion after the second data message, second HARQ feedback for the second data message based on the following: whether the second HARQ process is enabled or disabled, an order of the first and second occasions, and an out-of-order scheduling restriction.
