Managing Sidelink Communication Security - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17917610 titled 'Managing Sidelink Communication Security

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for managing security in sidelink communication between wireless devices. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • A radio bearer identifier is generated to uniquely identify a radio bearer for sidelink communication between a transmitting wireless device and a receiving wireless device.
  • The generated radio bearer identifier is transmitted to the receiving wireless device.
  • The radio bearer identifier is used to apply a security protocol to the sidelink communication, ensuring integrity/authentication and encryption.
  • A mapping between a logic channel identifier and the bearer identifier is also disclosed.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This technology can be applied in various wireless communication systems, such as cellular networks, IoT devices, and vehicle-to-vehicle communication.
  • It can enhance the security of sidelink communication, ensuring that data transmitted between devices is protected from unauthorized access or tampering.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Sidelink communication often requires security measures to protect sensitive data, but existing methods may not provide sufficient security or efficiency.
  • This technology solves the problem of managing security in sidelink communication by generating and transmitting a unique radio bearer identifier, which is used to apply a security protocol.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved security: The use of a unique radio bearer identifier and a security protocol ensures the integrity, authentication, and encryption of sidelink communication, protecting it from unauthorized access or tampering.
  • Efficient communication: The mapping between logic channel identifier and bearer identifier allows for efficient management of sidelink communication, optimizing the use of resources and reducing overhead.

Original Abstract Submitted

There is provided a method performed by a transmitting wireless device for managing sidelink communication security. A radio bearer identifier is generated (). The generated radio bearer identifier uniquely identifies a radio bearer for a sidelink communication between the transmitting wireless device and a receiving wireless device. The generated radio bearer identifier is transmitted () to the receiving wireless device. The generated radio bearer identifier is for use in applying a security protocol to the sidelink communication. The security protocol relates to integrity/authentication and encryption of the sidelink communication. A mapping between a logic channel identifier of 6 bits and the bearer identifier of 5 bits is also disclosed.
