BEAM MANAGEMENT PROCEDURES FOR NETWORK NODES AND TERMINAL DEVICES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17916392 titled 'BEAM MANAGEMENT PROCEDURES FOR NETWORK NODES AND TERMINAL DEVICES

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for performing a beam management procedure in a network node that provides network access to a terminal device. The procedure involves evaluating different polarization states in different time units.

  • The network node obtains configuration information from the terminal device, specifying the need for evaluating different polarization states during the beam management procedure.
  • The network node performs the beam management procedure with the terminal device.
  • The procedure includes transmitting reference signals per slot according to a reference signal transmission scheme, which is determined based on the obtained configuration information.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied in wireless communication systems, such as 5G networks, to improve beam management and optimize network performance.
  • It can be used in various industries that rely on wireless communication, including telecommunications, IoT, and autonomous vehicles.

Problems Solved

  • Traditional beam management procedures may not consider the evaluation of different polarization states, leading to suboptimal network performance.
  • By incorporating the evaluation of different polarization states, this technology aims to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of beam management procedures.

Benefits

  • Improved network performance: By evaluating different polarization states, the beam management procedure can better adapt to changing network conditions and optimize signal transmission.
  • Enhanced reliability: The use of different polarization states allows for increased signal diversity, reducing the impact of interference and improving overall network reliability.
  • Efficient resource allocation: By dynamically adjusting the reference signal transmission scheme based on configuration information, network resources can be allocated more efficiently, leading to improved network capacity and user experience.

Original Abstract Submitted

There is provided mechanisms for performing a beam management procedure. A method is performed by a network node. The method comprises obtaining configuration information from a terminal device for which the network node provides network access. The configuration information specifies that the terminal device is in need for evaluating different polarization states in different time units during the beam management procedure. The method comprises performing the beam management procedure with the terminal device. The beam management procedure involves the network node to, per slot, transmit reference signals according to a reference signal transmission scheme. The reference signal transmission scheme depends on the obtained configuration information.
