ELECTRONIC PAPER - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17915110 titled 'ELECTRONIC PAPER

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an electronic paper that includes an array substrate and a cover plate with an electrophoretic layer in between. The array substrate has a pixel electrode, a first auxiliary electrode, and a second auxiliary electrode.

  • The electronic paper consists of an array substrate and a cover plate with an electrophoretic layer in between.
  • The array substrate includes a pixel electrode, a first auxiliary electrode, and a second auxiliary electrode.
  • The second auxiliary electrode is insulated from the pixel electrode and the first auxiliary electrode.
  • The orthographic projection of the second auxiliary electrode on the substrate overlaps with the orthographic projection of the pixel electrode and the first auxiliary electrode.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • E-readers: The electronic paper can be used in e-readers to provide a paper-like reading experience.
  • Digital signage: The technology can be used in digital signage displays for advertising and information purposes.
  • Electronic shelf labels: The electronic paper can be used in retail stores for displaying product information and prices.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Improved image quality: The overlapping of the electrodes helps in achieving better image quality on the electronic paper.
  • Reduced power consumption: The use of electrophoretic technology in the electronic paper helps in reducing power consumption compared to traditional displays.
  • Enhanced readability: The paper-like characteristics of the electronic paper make it easier to read in various lighting conditions.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Thin and lightweight: The electronic paper is thin and lightweight, making it suitable for portable devices.
  • Low power consumption: The technology consumes less power, resulting in longer battery life for devices using electronic paper.
  • High contrast and readability: The electronic paper provides high contrast and readability, similar to traditional paper, making it comfortable for reading.

Original Abstract Submitted

Provided is an electronic paper. The electronic paper includes: an array substrate and a cover plate that are arranged oppositely, and an electrophoretic layer disposed between the array substrate and the cover plate. The array substrate includes: a substrate, a pixel electrode disposed on the substrate, a first auxiliary electrode disposed on the substrate and electrically connected to the pixel electrode, and a second auxiliary electrode disposed between the pixel electrode and the first auxiliary electrode, wherein the second auxiliary electrode is insulated from the pixel electrode and the first auxiliary electrode. An orthographic projection of the second auxiliary electrode on the substrate is at least partly overlapped with an orthographic projection of the pixel electrode on the substrate, and is at least partly overlapped with an orthographic projection of the first auxiliary electrode on the substrate.
