APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING HEAD UP DISPLAY OF VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17891459 titled 'APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING HEAD UP DISPLAY OF VEHICLE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an apparatus and method for controlling a head-up display (HUD) in a vehicle. The system includes a navigation device, a display device, and a controller.

  • The navigation device determines the remaining distance from the vehicle's current location to a point where the driving direction changes.
  • The display device shows vehicle information as an augmented reality image, overlaying it on the driver's view of the road.
  • The controller calculates the vehicle speed at a specific distance before the driving direction change point.
  • Based on the vehicle speed, the controller determines the projection time point of the augmented reality image.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Automotive industry: This technology can be implemented in vehicles to enhance the driving experience and improve safety by providing drivers with important information in an easily recognizable format.
  • Navigation systems: The system can be integrated into navigation devices to provide real-time information to drivers, such as upcoming turns or points of interest.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Difficulty in recognizing augmented reality images: By considering the vehicle speed, the system ensures that the augmented reality image is projected at the right time and in a way that is easily recognizable to the driver, reducing the risk of distraction or confusion.
  • Safety concerns: By overlaying vehicle information on the driver's view of the road, the system allows drivers to access important information without taking their eyes off the road, promoting safer driving.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved driving experience: The augmented reality image provides drivers with relevant information in a visually appealing and easily understandable format, enhancing their overall driving experience.
  • Enhanced safety: By projecting the augmented reality image at the right time and considering the vehicle speed, the system helps drivers stay focused on the road and reduces the risk of accidents or errors.
  • User-friendly interface: The system simplifies the process of accessing and understanding vehicle information, making it more accessible and user-friendly for drivers.

Original Abstract Submitted

An apparatus and method for controlling a head-up display of a vehicle includes a navigation device that determines a remaining distance from a location of the vehicle to a driving direction change point, a display device that displays vehicle information as an augmented reality image, and a controller configured for determining a vehicle speed at a point where the remaining distance is a specified distance, and determines a projection time point of the augmented reality image based on to the vehicle speed. Therefore, it is possible to provide a safe driving to the driver by allowing the driver to easily recognize the augmented reality image in consideration of the vehicle speed.
