METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR ENHANCING IMAGE QUALITY - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17890868 titled 'METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR ENHANCING IMAGE QUALITY

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for improving the quality of images. Here are the key points:

  • The method involves receiving multiple input frames and associated metadata.
  • Feature scores are calculated for each input frame to assess their quality.
  • A parametric score is determined for each input frame based on the feature scores and metadata.
  • Artifacts in the input frames are identified for correction based on the parametric score.
  • The strength of correction needed for each identified artifact is determined based on the parametric score.
  • The determined strength of correction is then applied to the input frames.
  • Multi-frame blending is performed on the corrected input frames.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Enhancing image quality in photography and videography.
  • Improving the clarity and sharpness of images in medical imaging.
  • Enhancing the visual quality of images in surveillance systems.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Low-quality images can be improved by identifying and correcting artifacts.
  • The method provides a systematic approach to enhance image quality based on feature scores and metadata.
  • Multi-frame blending helps to further enhance the quality of the images.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved image quality leads to better visual experience and interpretation.
  • The method can be automated, saving time and effort in manual image enhancement.
  • The use of feature scores and metadata provides a more objective approach to image quality assessment and correction.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method for enhancing image quality may be provided. The method may include receiving a plurality of input frames and metadata, and determining one or more feature scores for a received input frame from the plurality of input frames. The method may further include determining a parametric score for the received input frame based on an analysis of the one or more feature scores of the received input frame and the metadata. The method may include identifying one or more artifacts for correction in the received input frame based on the parametric score, and determining a strength of correction required for at least one identified artifact in the received input frame based on the parametric score, then applying the determined strength of correction to the received input frame. The method may further include performing multi-frame blending for a plurality of received input frames with applied determined strength of correction.
