DEVICE AND METHOD FOR GENERATING SOUND FOR VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17889274 titled 'DEVICE AND METHOD FOR GENERATING SOUND FOR VEHICLE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for creating a virtual sound in vehicles equipped with auto cruise control to overcome the lack of sound when the accelerator pedal is not pressed. The method involves determining if the accelerator pedal is being used and if the auto cruise control system is active. If both conditions are met, a vehicle speed-based order component is identified from the driving sound and a speed sensitive virtual sound is generated based on this component.

  • Determines if the accelerator pedal is pressed
  • Determines if the auto cruise control system is active
  • Classifies a vehicle speed-based order component from the driving sound
  • Generates a speed sensitive virtual sound based on the classified component

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Automotive industry: This method can be implemented in vehicles equipped with auto cruise control systems to provide a virtual sound experience when the accelerator pedal is not pressed, enhancing the driving experience.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Lack of sound in vehicles with auto cruise control: When the accelerator pedal is not pressed, there is often no sound in the vehicle, which can lead to a sense of difference or disconnection for the driver. This method solves this problem by generating a virtual sound based on the vehicle's speed.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced driving experience: By creating a virtual sound that corresponds to the vehicle's speed, this method can provide a more immersive and engaging driving experience for the driver.
  • Improved safety: The virtual sound can help the driver maintain a sense of connection with the vehicle, reducing the risk of distraction or disengagement while using auto cruise control.

Original Abstract Submitted

Disclosed is a sound design method for overcoming sense of difference when there is no virtual sound while an auto cruise control is activated. The method includes determining whether an accelerator pedal is actuated; upon determining that the accelerator pedal is not actuated, determining whether an auto cruise control system is operating; upon determining whether the auto cruise control system is operating, classifying a vehicle speed-based order component from a driving sound; and reproducing a speed sensitive virtual sound based on the classified vehicle speed-based order component.
