ENHANCEMENT TO MULTI-USER MIMO BY CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION REPORTING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17887899 titled 'ENHANCEMENT TO MULTI-USER MIMO BY CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION REPORTING

Simplified Explanation

Methods and systems are disclosed for configuring multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) operation by a base station and a plurality of user equipment (UEs). The key steps involved in this process are:

  • Requesting sounding reference signals (SRS) or channel state information (CSI) data from each UE.
  • Configuring a precoder matrix based on the SRS or CSI data received from each UE. This matrix allocates a set of precoded CSI-reference signal (CSI-RS) resources for each UE.
  • Scheduling the precoded CSI-RS resources for each UE.
  • Receiving a channel quality indicator (CQI) report from each UE, which is based on the precoded CSI-RS resources received by that UE.
  • Generating a CQI matrix from the CQI reports of each UE.
  • Selecting a subset of UEs from the plurality based on the CQI matrix.
  • Scheduling downlink (DL) resources, including reference signals, for the subset of UEs.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Wireless communication systems using MU-MIMO technology.
  • Cellular networks and base stations.
  • 5G and beyond networks.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Efficient allocation of resources in MU-MIMO systems.
  • Improved downlink communication performance.
  • Enhanced user experience in wireless networks.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Increased system capacity and throughput.
  • Improved spectral efficiency.
  • Enhanced user fairness and quality of service.
  • Better utilization of available resources.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods and systems are for configuring multi-user multiple-input multiple output (MU-MIMO) operation by a base station and a plurality of UEs include requesting sounding reference signals (SRS) or channel state information (CSI) data from each UE of the plurality; configuring, based on the SRS or CSI data from each UE, a precoder matrix, the precoder matrix allocating a plurality of precoded CSI-reference signal (CSI-RS) resources for each UE; scheduling, for each UE, the precoded CSI-RS resources; receiving, from each UE, a CQI report that is based on the precoded CSI-RS resources received by that respective UE; generating a CQI matrix from the CQI reports of each UE; selecting a subset of UEs from the plurality based on the CQI matrix; and scheduling DL resources for the subset of UEs, the DL resources including reference signals.
