Systems and Methods for Network Performance Monitoring - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17880524 titled 'Systems and Methods for Network Performance Monitoring

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a communications system that includes user equipment devices, communications satellites, gateways, a satellite communications network, and network performance monitoring devices. The monitoring devices generate signal information for forward link signals received from the satellites and reverse link packets transmitted to the gateways. The monitoring devices and gateways also generate signal information for the reverse link packets. The satellite communications network identifies differences between the signal information and predicted signal information for the monitoring devices. When the differences exceed a threshold value, the network generates and transmits error information to diagnose and repair potential errors.

  • The communications system includes user equipment devices, communications satellites, gateways, a satellite communications network, and network performance monitoring devices.
  • The monitoring devices generate signal information for forward link signals received from the satellites and reverse link packets transmitted to the gateways.
  • The monitoring devices and gateways also generate signal information for the reverse link packets.
  • The satellite communications network compares the signal information with predicted signal information for the monitoring devices.
  • If the differences between the signal information and predicted signal information exceed a threshold value, the network generates and transmits error information.
  • The error information is used to diagnose, debug, and repair potential errors in the constellation or gateways.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Satellite communications systems
  • Network performance monitoring and optimization
  • Error diagnosis and repair in satellite constellations and gateways

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Identifying and diagnosing errors in satellite communications systems
  • Optimizing network performance by monitoring signal information
  • Improving the reliability and efficiency of satellite constellations and gateways

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced communication system reliability
  • Improved network performance and efficiency
  • Streamlined error diagnosis and repair processes

Original Abstract Submitted

A communications system may include user equipment (UE) devices, communications satellites, gateways, a satellite communications (satcom) network, and network performance monitoring devices. The monitoring devices may generate forward link signal information associated with forward link signals received from the satellites and may generate reverse link packets transmitted to the gateways via the satellites. The monitoring devices and the gateways may generate reverse link signal information associated with the reverse link packets. The satcom network may identify differences between the first and second reverse link signal information or between the forward link signal information and predicted forward link signal information for the monitoring devices. When the differences exceed a threshold value, the satcom network may generate and transmit error information used to diagnose, debug, and/or repair the potential errors in the constellation or gateways.
