VARIABLE PRESSURE WEATHERSTRIP ASSEMBLY - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17879949 titled 'VARIABLE PRESSURE WEATHERSTRIP ASSEMBLY

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a variable pressure weatherstrip assembly for vehicles. Here are the key points:

  • The weatherstrip assembly is designed to seal the gap between a vehicle body and an opening/closing part of the vehicle.
  • It includes a sealing portion with a closed cross-section and a fixing portion that is integrated with the sealing portion and fixed to the vehicle panel.
  • An air supply device is used to supply pressurized air to the sealing portion of the weatherstrip.
  • An air line is provided to allow communication between the air supply device and the sealing portion.
  • One or more control valves are installed in the air line, between the sealing portion and the air supply device, to control the air supply to the sealing portion.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Automotive industry: The variable pressure weatherstrip assembly can be used in various types of vehicles, such as cars, trucks, and buses, to provide improved sealing and weatherproofing.
  • Construction industry: The technology can also be applied in the construction of buildings, especially for doors and windows, to enhance insulation and prevent air and water leakage.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Inadequate sealing: Traditional weatherstrips may not provide a tight seal, leading to air and water leakage, which can affect the comfort and safety of vehicle occupants.
  • Inefficient insulation: Poor insulation can result in energy loss and reduced thermal comfort inside the vehicle or building.
  • Difficulty in controlling sealing pressure: The variable pressure weatherstrip assembly allows for precise control of the sealing pressure, ensuring optimal sealing performance.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced sealing performance: The variable pressure weatherstrip assembly provides a more effective seal, reducing air and water leakage.
  • Improved energy efficiency: The better insulation properties of the weatherstrip assembly help to reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling.
  • Customizable sealing pressure: The ability to control the sealing pressure allows for customization based on specific requirements, ensuring optimal sealing performance in different conditions.

Original Abstract Submitted

In one aspect, a variable pressure weatherstrip assembly according to the present disclosure includes: a weatherstrip including a sealing portion having a closed cross-section therein and configured to seal a portion between a vehicle body and an opening/closing part of a vehicle, and a fixing portion integrated with the sealing portion and fixed to a panel of the vehicle; an air supply device configured to supply pressurized air to the sealing portion; an air line configured to allow the air supply device and the sealing portion to communicate with each other; and one or more control valves installed in the air line, disposed between the sealing portion and the air supply device, and configured to control the air to be supplied to the sealing portion from the air supply device.
