METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR DELIVERING EDGE-ASSISTED ATTENTION-AWARE HIGH DEFINITION MAP - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17877104 titled 'METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR DELIVERING EDGE-ASSISTED ATTENTION-AWARE HIGH DEFINITION MAP

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an edge device that provides an HD map to a vehicle. The device analyzes the head pose and location of the vehicle's occupant to determine a potential route different from the original route. It then transmits HD map information corresponding to the potential route to the vehicle.

  • The edge device obtains the head pose of the vehicle's occupant.
  • The device also obtains the location of the vehicle following the original route.
  • By analyzing the head pose and location, the device determines a potential route for the vehicle.
  • The potential route is different from the original route.
  • The device transmits HD map information corresponding to the potential route to the vehicle.

Potential Applications:

  • Autonomous driving systems: The technology can be used in autonomous vehicles to provide updated HD maps based on the occupant's head pose and current location.
  • Navigation systems: The edge device can enhance navigation systems by providing alternative routes based on the occupant's preferences and current location.

Problems Solved:

  • Outdated maps: The technology solves the problem of using outdated maps by providing real-time HD map information based on the occupant's head pose and current location.
  • Inefficient routes: By analyzing the head pose and location, the device can determine more efficient routes, avoiding traffic congestion or roadblocks.

Benefits:

  • Improved safety: The technology enhances the safety of the vehicle by providing up-to-date HD map information, allowing for better navigation and decision-making.
  • Enhanced user experience: Occupants can have a personalized navigation experience with alternative routes based on their preferences and current location.
  • Time and fuel efficiency: By providing more efficient routes, the technology can save time and reduce fuel consumption for the vehicle.

Original Abstract Submitted

An edge device for providing an HD map to a vehicle is provided. The edge device includes a controller programmed to: obtain a head pose of an occupant of a vehicle; obtain a location of the vehicle following an original route; analyze the head pose and the location of the vehicle to determine a potential route for the vehicle, the potential route being different from the original route, and transmit HD map information corresponding to the potential route to the vehicle in response to determining the potential route.
