DISPLAY DEVICE AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17873942 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display device that includes a substrate, an insulation layer with openings, emission layers positioned in the openings, and spacers on the insulation layer. The spacers can have various shapes and sizes, with at least one spacer having a larger planar area than the smallest light emitting region. Additionally, the number of spacers in a predetermined region is at least 30% of the number of light emitting regions in that region.

  • The display device includes a substrate, insulation layer, emission layers, and spacers.
  • The insulation layer has openings, and the emission layers are positioned in these openings.
  • The spacers can have shapes like circles or regular polygons with five or more sides.
  • Some spacers can have rounded corners in addition to the regular polygon shape.
  • At least one spacer has a larger planar area than the smallest light emitting region.
  • The number of spacers in a predetermined region is at least 30% of the number of light emitting regions in that region.

Potential Applications

  • This display device can be used in various electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, televisions, and computer monitors.
  • It can be utilized in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) headsets to provide high-quality and immersive visual experiences.
  • The technology can be applied in automotive displays to enhance the visibility and clarity of information for drivers.

Problems Solved

  • The use of spacers helps to maintain uniformity and stability in the display device.
  • By having spacers with larger planar areas than the light emitting regions, any potential issues with light leakage or non-uniformity can be minimized.
  • The arrangement of spacers in a predetermined region ensures proper support and alignment of the emission layers, improving the overall performance of the display.

Benefits

  • The display device provides improved image quality with reduced light leakage and enhanced uniformity.
  • The use of spacers with larger planar areas helps to prevent any distortion or degradation in the displayed content.
  • The arrangement of spacers ensures proper alignment and support for the emission layers, leading to a more reliable and durable display.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes: a substrate; an insulation layer that is positioned on the substrate and includes a plurality of openings; a plurality of emission layers that are positioned in the openings; and a plurality of spacers that are positioned on the insulation layer, wherein an area where the emission layers are positioned defines light emitting regions on a plane, at least one of the spacers has a shape of a circle, a regular polygon having five or more sides, or a regular polygon with at least one rounded corner and five or more sides, a planar area of at least one of the spacers is larger than a planar area of the smallest light emitting region, and the number of the spacers positioned in the predetermined region is at least 30% of the number of the light emitting regions arranged in the predetermined region.
