IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17873628 titled 'IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an image forming apparatus that includes various units for feeding, forming, reading, and conveying sheets. It also includes discharge units, a determination unit, and a control unit.

  • The apparatus is designed to handle multiple copies of a document.
  • If an abnormal sheet is detected in the first copy, the remaining sheets are divided into two groups.
  • The first group of remaining sheets is discharged to a second discharge unit.
  • The second group of remaining sheets is selectively discharged to either the first or the second discharge unit.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Office printers and copiers
  • Commercial printing machines
  • Document scanning and copying devices

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Efficient handling of abnormal sheets in a document copying process
  • Preventing abnormal sheets from causing disruptions or jams in the machine

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved reliability and efficiency in document copying
  • Reduced downtime and maintenance requirements
  • Enhanced user experience with smoother operation and fewer errors

Original Abstract Submitted

An image forming apparatus includes a feeding unit, an image forming unit, a reading unit, a conveyance unit, a first discharge unit and a second discharge unit, a determination unit, and a control unit. When an (n)th sheet in a first copy is an abnormal sheet, remaining sheets include sheets fed by the feeding unit after the abnormal sheet is fed by the feeding unit until the image on the abnormal sheet is read by the reading unit, and the remaining sheets include a first group of remaining sheets and a second group of remaining sheets. The control unit is configured to execute an abnormal discharge mode in which the sheets of the first group of the remaining sheets are discharged to the second discharge unit and each of the sheets of the second group of the remaining sheets is discharged selectively to the first or the second discharge unit.
