APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17873229 titled 'APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an apparatus with a pivoting exterior cover that can extend in two directions. The cover has two engagement portions that overlap each other when viewed from a certain direction. One of the engagement portions has a ridgeline that extends further away from the pivot shaft as it moves downstream.

  • The apparatus has a pivoting exterior cover that can extend in two directions.
  • The cover has two engagement portions that overlap each other when viewed from a certain direction.
  • One of the engagement portions has a ridgeline that extends further away from the pivot shaft as it moves downstream.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This apparatus could be used in various types of machinery or equipment that require a pivoting cover.
  • It could be applied in automotive design for parts that need to be covered and easily accessible.
  • This technology could also be used in household appliances or electronic devices that have movable covers.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The apparatus provides a simplified and efficient way to pivot and extend an exterior cover.
  • The overlapping engagement portions ensure a secure and stable connection between the cover and the apparatus body.
  • The ridgeline design allows for a smoother and more controlled movement of the cover.

Benefits of this technology:

  • The apparatus offers improved functionality and versatility with its ability to pivot and extend in multiple directions.
  • The overlapping engagement portions provide a strong and reliable connection between the cover and the apparatus body.
  • The ridgeline design ensures a smooth and controlled movement of the cover, enhancing user experience.

Original Abstract Submitted

An apparatus includes an apparatus body, an exterior cover configured to pivot around a pivot shaft extending in a first direction, and extend in the first direction and a second direction orthogonal to the first direction, a first engagement portion including a first engagement surface, and a second engagement portion, the second engagement portion including a facing surface facing the first engagement surface. When viewed in a third direction vertical to an exterior surface of the exterior cover, the first engagement surface and the facing surface at least partially overlap each other. The facing surface includes a second engagement surface and an inclined surface. When viewed in the third direction, a ridgeline formed by the second engagement surface and the inclined surface extends further away from the pivot shaft in the second direction as the ridgeline extends more downstream in the first direction.
