HYDROGEN LEAK SENSING DEVICE AND METHOD FOR FUEL CELL VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17873019 titled 'HYDROGEN LEAK SENSING DEVICE AND METHOD FOR FUEL CELL VEHICLE

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a hydrogen leak sensing device and method for a fuel cell vehicle. The device includes a processor that controls a valve of a hydrogen tank and calculates the state of fuel (SOF) of the tank when the valve is closed and when it is opened. Based on the calculated SOFs, the device determines whether a hydrogen leak has occurred.

  • The device includes a processor that controls a valve of a hydrogen tank.
  • The processor calculates the state of fuel (SOF) of the hydrogen tank when the valve is closed.
  • The processor also calculates the SOF of the hydrogen tank when the valve is opened.
  • Based on the calculated SOFs, the device determines whether a hydrogen leak has occurred.

Potential Applications

  • Fuel cell vehicles
  • Hydrogen storage systems
  • Industrial hydrogen usage

Problems Solved

  • Detecting hydrogen leaks in fuel cell vehicles
  • Ensuring safety in hydrogen storage and usage systems

Benefits

  • Early detection of hydrogen leaks
  • Improved safety in fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen storage systems
  • Prevents potential accidents or hazards caused by hydrogen leaks

Original Abstract Submitted

In one aspect, disclosed are a hydrogen leak sensing device and method for a fuel cell vehicle. The device comprises a processor configured to control a valve of a hydrogen tank, wherein the processor may calculate a state of fuel (SOF) of the hydrogen tank when the valve is closed and a SOF of the hydrogen tank when the valve is opened, and determine whether hydrogen leak has occurred based on the calculated SOFs.
