ZERO DIFFUSION BREAK - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17863382 titled 'ZERO DIFFUSION BREAK

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a standard cell in a Place and Route (PNR) library, which includes a cell boundary and cell configuration information. The cell configuration information indicates how the standard cell should be connected to another standard cell in a layout, specifically sharing a transistor source electrode.

  • The standard cell has a cell boundary with two opposite edges.
  • The cell configuration information specifies the power connection configuration for the standard cell when placed next to another standard cell in a PNR environment.
  • The power connection configuration ensures that at least one transistor source electrode is physically shared between the standard cell and the second standard cell.
  • The cell configuration information may include edge identifier information for the first and second edges of the standard cell.
  • The power connection configuration may be located outside the cell boundary of the standard cell.

Potential Applications

  • Integrated circuit design
  • Electronic device manufacturing
  • Semiconductor industry

Problems Solved

  • Efficient power connection configuration between standard cells in a layout
  • Optimization of transistor source electrode sharing
  • Streamlining the Place and Route process in integrated circuit design

Benefits

  • Improved layout efficiency
  • Enhanced power connection configuration
  • Reduction in design complexity
  • Increased performance and reliability of integrated circuits

Original Abstract Submitted

A standard cell in a Place and Route (PNR) library of standard cells includes a cell boundary and cell configuration information. The cell boundary includes a first edge and a second edge that is opposite the first edge. The cell configuration information indicates a power connection configuration to be used with a second standard cell when the standard cell is placed next to the second standard cell in a layout in a PNR environment, such that at least one transistor source electrode is physically shared between the standard cell and the second standard cell. The cell configuration information may be edge identifier information for the first edge and/or the second edge of the first standard cell. The power connection configuration may also indicate that the power connection configuration for the first edge and/or the second edge is outside the cell boundary for the standard cell.
