DISPLAY DEVICE AND METHOD OF DRIVING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17860110 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE AND METHOD OF DRIVING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display device that includes a pixel with a transistor to generate a driving current. It also includes an emission driver, scan driver, data driver, and a controller.

  • The emission driver supplies an emission control signal to an emission control line during a frame period.
  • The scan driver supplies scan signals to scan lines in non-emission periods.
  • The data driver supplies a data signal to a data line.
  • The controller adjusts the off-duty of the emission control signal in response to a dimming signal and controls the timing of the scan signals.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Display devices such as televisions, computer monitors, and mobile phone screens.
  • Electronic signage and billboards.
  • Virtual reality and augmented reality headsets.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Efficient control of the emission of light from pixels.
  • Accurate timing of scan signals.
  • Dimming capability for adjusting brightness levels.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved energy efficiency.
  • Enhanced image quality and clarity.
  • Customizable brightness levels for different environments and user preferences.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes a pixel having a first transistor connected between first and second nodes to generate a driving current; an emission driver that supplies an emission control signal including an off-duty corresponding to first and second gate-off periods to an emission control line during a frame period; a scan driver that supplies first to fourth scan signals to the first to fourth scan lines in a first non-emission period, respectively, and that supplies the first scan signal to the first scan line in a second non-emission period; a data driver that supplies a data signal to the data line; and a controller adjusting the off-duty of the emission control signal that is a width of each of the first and second non-emission periods in response to a dimming signal, and that controls a timing at which the first scan signal is supplied in the second non-emission period.
