Packaging with Interlocking Ripcord Mechanical Lock - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17849108 titled 'Packaging with Interlocking Ripcord Mechanical Lock

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a packaging design with a locking mechanism to secure a lid and base box together.

  • The locking mechanism is an interlocking ripcord mechanical lock integrated into the packaging.
  • The ripcord is a slot and tab style mechanism that utilizes the thickness of the corrugated material to lock the tab inside a slot.
  • This prevents the base box from sliding out of the lid when the packaging is held by the lid.
  • The mechanical lock is released when the ripcord is removed, allowing the customer to open the packaging.

Potential Applications

  • Finished goods packaging
  • Shipping and transportation packaging
  • Retail packaging for consumer products

Problems Solved

  • Prevents the base box from accidentally sliding out of the lid during handling and transportation.
  • Provides a secure closure for packaging, ensuring the contents are protected.

Benefits

  • Easy to use and open by the customer.
  • Provides a reliable and secure closure for packaging.
  • Reduces the risk of damage to the contents during handling and transportation.

Original Abstract Submitted

Packaging with a locking mechanism is provided, such as for finished goods packaging, such that a lid and base box may be secured together in a closed configuration. An interlocking ripcord mechanical lock may include a slot and tab style ripcord that is integrated into the packaging. As an example, packaging using corrugated material may utilize the corrugated material thickness to lock the tab record inside an opening such as a slot, such that the base box is retained and coupled to the lid, thereby preventing the base box from sliding out from the lid if a user except packaging by the lid. Once the ripcord is removed, is removed, the mechanical lock is thereby released from the base and lid, allowing the customer to open the packaging.
