MEMORY BLOCK UTILIZATION IN MEMORY SYSTEMS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17846761 titled 'MEMORY BLOCK UTILIZATION IN MEMORY SYSTEMS

Simplified Explanation

Methods, systems, and devices for memory block utilization in memory systems are described in this patent application. The innovation allows a memory device to divide a memory block into multiple sub-memory blocks, which can be programmed independently. Here are the key points:

  • The memory system can be configured to group or segment a memory block into two or more sub-memory blocks.
  • The host system determines the configuration of the memory array and communicates it to the memory system.
  • The memory system utilizes the configuration information to segment the memory cells into sub-blocks.
  • By segmenting the memory block, the memory device can maintain its memory block density while efficiently programming blocks of the memory array.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Memory systems in various electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and computers.
  • Data storage systems in servers and data centers.
  • Embedded systems in automotive, aerospace, and industrial applications.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Efficient programming of memory blocks in memory systems.
  • Maintaining memory block density while allowing independent programming of sub-blocks.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved flexibility in programming memory blocks.
  • Enhanced memory utilization and efficiency.
  • Better control over memory operations and configurations.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for memory block utilization in memory systems are described. A system configured to allow a memory device to group or segment a memory block into two or more sub-memory blocks, which can be independently programmed is described herein. For example, a host system may determine a configuration of a memory array, and communicate the configuration information to the memory system, and transmit a command for an operation to the memory system. In some examples, the memory system may utilize the memory array configuration information and determine to segment the blocks of memory cells into sub-blocks. By segmenting the memory block into sub-blocks, the memory device may maintain its memory block density while supporting efficient programming of blocks of the memory array.
