DISPLAY PANEL AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17839771 titled 'DISPLAY PANEL AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display panel for electronic devices that includes a light emitting device array, a color conversion layer, and an encapsulation film. The color conversion layer contains a quantum dot-polymer pattern with a smooth upper surface.

  • The display panel includes a light emitting device array and a color conversion layer.
  • The color conversion layer converts the emission spectrum of light emitted from the light emitting device array.
  • An encapsulation film is placed on top of the color conversion layer.
  • The color conversion layer contains a quantum dot-polymer pattern.
  • The quantum dot-polymer pattern is a composite material.
  • The upper surface of the quantum dot-polymer pattern has a low average roughness.
  • The roughness of the upper surface is less than or equal to about 3% of the thickness of the encapsulation film.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Display panels for electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and televisions.
  • Virtual reality and augmented reality headsets.
  • Automotive displays and infotainment systems.
  • Medical imaging devices and equipment.
  • Gaming consoles and monitors.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The color conversion layer improves the emission spectrum of light from the light emitting device array, resulting in better color accuracy and vibrancy.
  • The quantum dot-polymer pattern enhances the efficiency of the color conversion process.
  • The smooth upper surface of the quantum dot-polymer pattern reduces light scattering and improves overall display performance.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved color accuracy and vibrancy in display panels.
  • Higher efficiency in converting light emission spectrum.
  • Reduced light scattering for better display performance.
  • Enhanced visual experience for users.
  • Potential for thinner and lighter display panels.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display panel, a method of manufacturing the same, and an electronic device including the display panel. The display panel includes a light emitting device array including a plurality of light emitting devices, a color conversion layer disposed on the light emitting device array and converting the emission spectrum of light emitted from the light emitting device array, and an encapsulation film on the color conversion layer, wherein the color conversion layer includes a quantum dot-polymer pattern including a quantum dot-polymer composite, an average roughness (R) of an upper surface of the quantum dot-polymer pattern is less than or equal to about 3% of a thickness of the encapsulation film.
