APPARATUS FOR DETECTING DISTANCE AND METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17835755 titled 'APPARATUS FOR DETECTING DISTANCE AND METHOD THEREOF
Simplified Explanation
The patent application describes a distance detecting apparatus and method that uses a dual wavelength tuning light source to measure distances based on non-mechanical scanning. The apparatus includes a transmitter optical system, a receiver optical system, and a signal processor.
- The dual wavelength tuning light source can adjust the optical signal's wavelength using band tunability and fine tunability without mechanical scanning.
- The transmitter optical system sends the transmission optical signal from the dual wavelength tuning light source to the outside.
- The receiver optical system extracts the wavelength difference between the reception optical signal received from the outside and the transmission optical signal.
- The signal processor receives the wavelength difference from the receiver optical system and converts it into distance information.
Potential Applications
- Distance measurement in various fields such as surveying, construction, and robotics.
- Object detection and tracking in autonomous vehicles and drones.
- Industrial automation and control systems that require accurate distance measurements.
Problems Solved
- Eliminates the need for mechanical scanning in distance measurement, reducing complexity and potential points of failure.
- Provides a non-contact method for distance measurement, allowing for measurements in hazardous or hard-to-reach environments.
- Offers high accuracy and precision in distance measurements.
Benefits
- Non-mechanical scanning reduces the risk of wear and tear, increasing the lifespan of the apparatus.
- Non-contact measurement eliminates the need for physical contact with objects, reducing the risk of damage or contamination.
- High accuracy and precision enable precise distance measurements for various applications.
Original Abstract Submitted
A distance detecting apparatus and a method thereof includes a dual wavelength tuning light source configured to transmit a transmission optical signal by performing band tunability and fine tunability on an optical signal based on non-mechanical scanning; a transmitter optical system configured to transmit the transmission optical signal received from the dual wavelength tuning light source to an outside: a receiver optical system configured to extract a wavelength difference between a reception optical signal received from the outside and the transmission optical signal received from the dual wavelength tuning light source; and a signal processor configured to receive the wavelength difference from the receiver optical system and convert the wavelength difference into distance information.
