SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICE AND DATA STORAGE SYSTEM INCLUDING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17829011 titled 'SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICE AND DATA STORAGE SYSTEM INCLUDING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a semiconductor device with specific features and structures. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • The semiconductor device has a substrate divided into two regions: a first region and a second region.
  • It includes gate electrodes that are spaced apart from each other in a perpendicular direction to the upper surface of the substrate. These gate electrodes also extend in a different direction.
  • Channel structures are present, which penetrate the gate electrodes and extend in the same direction as the gate electrodes. These structures consist of a channel layer on the first region.
  • Support structures are also present, which penetrate the gate electrodes and extend in the same direction as the gate electrodes. These structures are located on the second region.
  • A separation region is included, which penetrates the gate electrodes and extends in a different direction.
  • The substrate has a recess region that overlaps with the separation region in one direction and extends downward from the upper surface in the second region, adjacent to the first region.
  • The separation region has a protrusion that extends downward to correspond to the recess region.

Potential Applications:

  • This semiconductor device can be used in various electronic devices, such as smartphones, tablets, computers, and other consumer electronics.
  • It can also be applied in industrial applications, including automation systems, robotics, and communication equipment.

Problems Solved:

  • The device addresses the need for efficient and reliable semiconductor devices by incorporating specific structures and features.
  • It solves the challenge of optimizing the performance and functionality of electronic devices by providing improved channel structures and support structures.

Benefits:

  • The semiconductor device offers enhanced performance and functionality due to its unique design and structures.
  • It provides improved efficiency and reliability in electronic devices.
  • The device allows for better control and manipulation of electrical signals, leading to improved overall performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

A semiconductor device includes a substrate having a first region and a second region, gate electrodes spaced apart from each other in a first direction, perpendicular to an upper surface of the substrate, and extend in a second direction, and have different lengths on the second region, channel structures that penetrate the gate electrodes, extend in the first direction, and respectively include a channel layer on the first region, support structures that penetrate the gate electrodes and extend in the first direction on the second region, and a separation region that penetrates the gate electrodes and extend in the second direction. The substrate has a recess region that overlaps the separation region in the first direction and extends downward from an upper surface in the second region, adjacent to the first region. The separation region has a protrusion that protrudes downward to correspond to the recess region.
