Inflatables-Based Process for Creating Multi-Layer Internal Reinforcements - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17818532 titled 'Inflatables-Based Process for Creating Multi-Layer Internal Reinforcements
Simplified Explanation
- A structural component for a vehicle is formed by creating cavities in hollow passages and filling them with polymer resin foam to create structural reinforcement layers.
- The process involves forming a first cavity in a first hollow passage, filling it with a first polymer resin, and foaming the resin to create a first polymer resin foam.
- A second cavity is then formed in the same hollow passage, filled with a second polymer resin, and foamed to create a second polymer resin foam.
Potential Applications
- Automotive industry for vehicle structural components
- Aerospace industry for lightweight structural components
Problems Solved
- Increased strength and durability of structural components
- Lightweight design for improved fuel efficiency
Benefits
- Enhanced structural integrity
- Reduced weight for improved performance
- Cost-effective manufacturing process
Original Abstract Submitted
A structural component for a vehicle and a process and system for forming the structural component. A first cavity is formed in a first hollow passage between a first bladder and an interior surface of a component forming the structural component. A first structural reinforcement layer is formed in the first cavity by filling the first cavity with a first polymer resin and foaming the first polymer resin to form a first polymer resin foam. A second cavity is formed in the first hollow passage and a second structural reinforcement layer is formed in the second cavity by filling the second cavity with a second polymer resin and foaming the second polymer resin to form a second polymer resin foam.
