IMAGE SENSOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17814085 titled 'IMAGE SENSOR

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an image sensor with a variable filter layer that can adjust the amount of light transmitted through the sensor.

  • The variable filter layer includes multiple first electrodes, a first electro-optical material layer, a light-transmitting electrode, a second electro-optical material layer, and multiple second electrodes.
  • The first electrodes extend in one direction and have a certain width in another direction.
  • The first electro-optical material layer is placed on top of the first electrodes.
  • A light-transmitting electrode is then placed on the first electro-optical material layer.
  • A second electro-optical material layer is placed on top of the light-transmitting electrode.
  • Finally, multiple second electrodes are placed on the second electro-optical material layer, extending in the second direction and having a certain width in the first direction.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Image sensors in digital cameras and smartphones.
  • Surveillance cameras and security systems.
  • Medical imaging devices.
  • Industrial inspection and quality control systems.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Allows for adjustable light transmission in an image sensor, providing better control over exposure and image quality.
  • Enables the sensor to adapt to different lighting conditions, improving performance in various environments.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved image quality and accuracy.
  • Enhanced control over exposure and lighting conditions.
  • Versatility in different environments and lighting conditions.
  • Potential for smaller and more compact image sensor designs.

Original Abstract Submitted
