DISPLAY DEVICE, TEMPERATURE ESTIMATOR, AND METHOD OF DRIVING DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17813379 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE, TEMPERATURE ESTIMATOR, AND METHOD OF DRIVING DISPLAY DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display device that includes a display panel with a panel region. The panel region has a block, which contains a pixel. The device also includes a temperature sensor to measure the temperature of the panel region and a temperature estimator to estimate the temperature of the display panel.

  • The temperature estimator uses a stress calculator to determine the accumulated stress value of the block based on the input image data.
  • It then uses a temperature potential calculator to calculate the temperature potential of the block using the accumulated stress value and a resistance model related to heat diffusion within the display panel.
  • Finally, a temperature calculator calculates the block temperature based on the region temperature and the temperature potential, which is used to estimate the overall temperature of the display panel.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This display device can be used in various electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, televisions, and computer monitors.
  • It can help in maintaining optimal temperature levels of the display panel, which can improve the performance and longevity of the device.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The temperature estimator helps in accurately estimating the temperature of the display panel, which can prevent overheating issues.
  • By calculating the accumulated stress value and temperature potential, the device can effectively manage heat diffusion within the display panel, reducing the risk of damage or malfunction.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved performance and longevity of electronic devices by maintaining optimal temperature levels.
  • Prevention of overheating issues, which can lead to device failure or reduced lifespan.
  • Efficient management of heat diffusion within the display panel, reducing the risk of damage or malfunction.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes a display panel including a panel region. The panel region includes a block, and the block includes a pixel. The display device further includes a temperature sensor sensing a region temperature of the panel region and a temperature estimator estimating a temperature of the display panel. The temperature estimator includes a stress calculator calculating an accumulated stress value corresponding to the block based on input image data, a temperature potential calculator calculating a temperature potential corresponding to the block based on the accumulated stress value and a resistance model related to a heat diffusion within the display panel, and a temperature calculator calculating a block temperature based on the region temperature and the temperature potential. The temperature of the display panel is estimated based on the block temperature.
