Vehicle and Method of Controlling the Same - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17813268 titled 'Vehicle and Method of Controlling the Same

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a patent application for a vehicle with an adjustable side mirror that can automatically control its angle based on surrounding and internal data, as well as communication with nearby vehicles. Here are the key points:

  • The vehicle has a sensor that collects data about its surroundings and internal state.
  • It also has a communicator to communicate with nearby vehicles.
  • The side mirror can be adjusted to different angles.
  • The controller analyzes the data from the sensor, communicator, and nearby vehicle to determine if automatic mirror control is possible.
  • If it is, the controller identifies if the nearby vehicle is expected to cross the vehicle's path.
  • It then calculates the angle between the heading directions of the nearby vehicle and the vehicle.
  • Finally, the controller adjusts the angle of the side mirror based on this calculated angle.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Automotive industry: This innovation can be applied to various types of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and motorcycles, to enhance safety and convenience.
  • Autonomous vehicles: The automatic mirror control can be integrated into self-driving cars to improve their awareness of surrounding vehicles and optimize their driving behavior.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Blind spots: By automatically adjusting the side mirror angle, this technology helps to minimize blind spots and improve visibility for the driver.
  • Collision prevention: The ability to identify and track nearby vehicles allows for better anticipation of potential collisions and enables proactive measures to avoid them.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved safety: By providing better visibility and awareness of surrounding vehicles, this technology can help reduce accidents and improve overall road safety.
  • Convenience: The automatic mirror control eliminates the need for manual adjustment, making it more convenient for the driver.
  • Enhanced driving experience: The integration of this technology in autonomous vehicles can contribute to a smoother and more efficient driving experience.

Original Abstract Submitted

An embodiment vehicle includes a sensor configured to acquire surrounding state data of the vehicle and internal state data of the vehicle, a communicator configured to communicate with a nearby vehicle, a side mirror having an angle that is adjustable, and a controller configured to identify whether an automatic mirror control of the vehicle is performable based on the surrounding state data, the internal state data, and a communication between the communicator and the nearby vehicle, in response to identifying that the automatic mirror control of the vehicle is performable, to identify that the nearby vehicle is expected to cross the vehicle based on the communication and to identify an angle between a heading direction of the nearby vehicle and a heading direction of the vehicle, and to control an angle of the side mirror based on the identified angle.
