MAIZE INBRED 1PTBJ78 - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17807585 titled 'MAIZE INBRED 1PTBJ78

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a novel maize variety designated 1PTBJ78, along with its seeds, plants, and plant parts. Methods for producing a maize plant involving crossing 1PTBJ78 with another maize plant are also provided, as well as methods for producing a maize plant containing specific traits through backcross conversion and/or transformation.

  • Maize variety designated 1PTBJ78 and its seeds, plants, and plant parts are provided.
  • Methods for producing a maize plant by crossing 1PTBJ78 with another maize plant are described.
  • Methods for introducing specific traits into 1PTBJ78 through backcross conversion and/or transformation are outlined.
  • Hybrid maize seed, plants, or plant parts can be produced by crossing 1PTBJ78 with another maize variety or a locus conversion of 1PTBJ78.

Potential Applications

The technology described in this patent application could be applied in agriculture for improving maize crops, increasing yield, and enhancing resistance to pests and diseases.

Problems Solved

This technology helps in developing maize varieties with desired traits, which can address challenges such as low productivity, susceptibility to diseases, and environmental stress.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include the potential for higher maize yields, improved crop quality, and enhanced resilience to various environmental conditions.

Potential Commercial Applications

Potential commercial applications of this technology include the production and sale of improved maize seeds, plants, and plant parts to farmers and agricultural companies.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the development of other maize varieties through traditional breeding methods or genetic modification techniques.

Unanswered Questions

1. What specific traits are introgressed into maize variety 1PTBJ78 through backcross conversion and transformation? 2. How does the yield and quality of maize plants produced from 1PTBJ78 compare to other maize varieties on the market?

Original Abstract Submitted

A novel maize variety designated 1PTBJ78 and seed, plants and plant parts thereof are provided. Methods for producing a maize plant comprise crossing maize variety 1PTBJ78 with another maize plant are provided. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into 1PTBJ78 through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby are provided. Hybrid maize seed, plants or plant parts are produced by crossing the variety 1PTBJ78 or a locus conversion of 1PTBJ78 with another maize variety.
