MAIZE INBRED 1PHMT48 - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17807539 titled 'MAIZE INBRED 1PHMT48

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a novel maize variety designated 1PHMT48 and methods for producing maize plants with specific genetic traits through crossing and backcrossing techniques.

  • Maize variety 1PHMT48 is provided, along with its seeds, plants, and plant parts.
  • Methods for producing maize plants with desired traits involve crossing 1PHMT48 with other maize plants.
  • Traits can be introgressed into 1PHMT48 through backcross conversion and/or transformation.
  • Hybrid maize seeds, plants, or plant parts can be produced by crossing 1PHMT48 with another maize variety.

Potential Applications

The technology described in this patent application could be applied in agriculture for improving maize crops by introducing specific genetic traits into the plants.

Problems Solved

This technology helps address the need for maize varieties with enhanced traits such as disease resistance, yield potential, or nutritional content.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include the potential for higher crop yields, improved plant resilience, and the ability to tailor maize plants to specific agricultural needs.

Potential Commercial Applications

The technology could have commercial applications in the agricultural industry for producing and selling hybrid maize seeds with desirable traits.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the development of other maize varieties through similar breeding and genetic modification techniques.

Unanswered Questions

How does the introgression of traits into maize variety 1PHMT48 compare to traditional breeding methods?

The introgression of traits into maize variety 1PHMT48 through backcross conversion and transformation allows for more precise control over the genetic makeup of the resulting plants compared to traditional breeding methods. This can lead to faster and more targeted improvements in the maize variety.

What are the potential regulatory considerations for commercializing maize plants produced using the methods described in the patent application?

Regulatory considerations for commercializing maize plants produced using the methods described in the patent application may include compliance with GMO regulations, intellectual property rights, and environmental impact assessments. These factors could influence the commercial viability and market acceptance of the technology.

Original Abstract Submitted

A novel maize variety designated 1PHMT48 and seed, plants and plant parts thereof are provided. Methods for producing a maize plant comprise crossing maize variety 1PHMT48 with another maize plant are provided. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into 1PHMT48 through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby are provided. Hybrid maize seed, plants or plant parts are produced by crossing the variety 1PHMT48 or a locus conversion of 1PHMT48 with another maize variety.
