CHANNEL ACCESS PROCEDURE FOR SL TRANSMISSION OVER UNLICENSED BAND - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17806713 titled 'CHANNEL ACCESS PROCEDURE FOR SL TRANSMISSION OVER UNLICENSED BAND

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method and apparatus for channel access in a wireless communication system. The method involves a user equipment (UE) determining if a channel is idle for a certain duration, and if so, occupying the channel for another duration to transmit a signal. The durations are based on a specific communication protocol.

  • The method is used by a UE in a wireless communication system.
  • The UE determines if a channel is idle for a specific duration.
  • If the channel is idle, the UE occupies the channel for another specific duration.
  • The UE transmits a signal on the channel during this occupied duration.
  • The durations are determined based on a specific communication protocol called SL PPPP for SL communication.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied in various wireless communication systems such as cellular networks, Wi-Fi networks, and IoT networks.
  • It can be used in devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops, IoT devices, and other wireless devices that require efficient channel access.

Problems Solved

  • Efficient channel access is crucial in wireless communication systems to avoid collisions and ensure reliable data transmission.
  • This technology solves the problem of determining if a channel is idle and occupying it for transmission, reducing the chances of interference and improving overall system performance.

Benefits

  • The method allows for efficient utilization of available channels by ensuring they are only occupied when idle.
  • By transmitting signals during the occupied duration, the technology enables reliable communication without interference.
  • The use of SL PPPP protocol provides a standardized approach for determining the idle and occupied durations, ensuring compatibility and interoperability among different devices and systems.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods and apparatuses for a channel access in a wireless communication systems. A method of a UE in a wireless communication system, the method comprising: determining whether, for a first time duration, a channel is sensed as an idle state for a channel access procedure; occupying the channel for a second time duration based on a determination that the channel is sensed as the idle state; and transmitting, for at least a portion of the second time duration, a signal on the channel, wherein the first time duration and the second time duration are based on a SL PPPP for a SL communication.
