Antenna and Electronic Device - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17788883 titled 'Antenna and Electronic Device

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an antenna design that includes a radiator and a balun structure. The radiator has two branches, one for a first current and the other for a second current, arranged on opposite sides of the balun structure. The direction of the first current is partially opposite to that of the second current. The branches are spaced from the balun structure by slots that are configured to create horizontally-radiated electric fields.

  • The antenna design includes a radiator with two branches for separate currents.
  • The branches are arranged on opposite sides of a balun structure.
  • The first and second currents flow in partially opposite directions.
  • The branches are spaced from the balun structure by slots.
  • The slots are designed to create horizontally-radiated electric fields.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Wireless communication systems
  • Satellite communication
  • Radar systems
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices
  • Mobile devices

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Improved antenna performance and efficiency

Original Abstract Submitted

An antenna includes a radiator and a balun structure. The radiator includes a first branch for a first current to flow through and a second branch for a second current to flow through. The first branch and the second branch are arranged on two opposite sides of the balun structure. A direction of the first current is at least partially opposite to that of the second current. The first branch is spaced from the balun structure by a first slot. The second branch is spaced from the balun structure by a second slot. The first slot is configured to form a first horizontally-radiated electric field by the first current and a current on the balun structure. The second slot is configured to form a second horizontally-radiated electric field by the second current and the current on the balun structure.
