CONFIGURATION OF A COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17769635 titled 'CONFIGURATION OF A COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK
Simplified Explanation
The patent application describes a method for configuring a communications network by analyzing operational data of network nodes and using probabilistic graphs to determine the probability of transitioning from one network state to another based on specific actions taken.
- The method involves obtaining operational data that includes configuration parameters and performance indicators of network nodes for different time periods.
- Actions are defined, each corresponding to a specific set of configuration parameter values in two consecutive time periods.
- States are defined, each representing a specific set of operational data values.
- A probabilistic graph is constructed using the operational data, showing the probability of transitioning from one state to another when an action is taken.
Potential applications of this technology:
- Network configuration optimization: The method can be used to optimize the configuration of network nodes based on historical operational data, improving network performance and efficiency.
- Fault detection and prevention: By analyzing the probabilistic graph, potential issues or faults in the network can be identified, allowing for proactive measures to be taken to prevent them.
- Predictive maintenance: The method can help predict when network nodes may require maintenance or replacement based on the probability of transitioning to a state indicating degraded performance.
Problems solved by this technology:
- Manual configuration challenges: The method automates the configuration process by analyzing operational data, reducing the need for manual intervention and potential human errors.
- Network optimization difficulties: By utilizing probabilistic graphs, the method provides a systematic approach to optimize network configuration, addressing the complexities of large-scale communication networks.
- Proactive maintenance and fault prevention: The method allows for early detection of potential issues or faults, enabling proactive measures to be taken to prevent network disruptions.
Benefits of this technology:
- Improved network performance: By optimizing network configuration based on historical operational data, the method can enhance overall network performance and efficiency.
- Cost savings: Proactive maintenance and fault prevention can help reduce downtime and minimize the need for costly emergency repairs.
- Time savings: Automation of the configuration process and early detection of issues can save time and resources for network administrators.
Original Abstract Submitted
A method of configuration in a communications network includes: obtaining operational data relating to operation of at least one network node, the operational data including, for each of a plurality of time periods, data relating to at least one configuration parameter of the network node and data relating to at least one performance indicator of the network node; defining a plurality of actions, wherein each action corresponds to a specific set of values of the at least one configuration parameter in two successive time periods; and defining a plurality of states, wherein each state corresponds to one specific set of values of the operational data. A probabilistic graph is constructed from the operational data, the probabilistic graph indicating, for a plurality of the defined states, a probability that an action will lead to a transition to a respective other state.
