REPETITION AND TIME DOMAIN COVER CODE BASED SOUNDING REFERENCE SIGNAL RESOURCES FOR ANTENNA SWITCHING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17758458 titled 'REPETITION AND TIME DOMAIN COVER CODE BASED SOUNDING REFERENCE SIGNAL RESOURCES FOR ANTENNA SWITCHING

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications. It focuses on the use of cover coding for sounding reference signal (SRS) resources to enable antenna switching. Here are the key points:

  • User equipment (UE) utilizes cover coding for sounding reference signal (SRS) resources to perform antenna switching.
  • The UE receives a configuration for a reference signal resource set for transmitting a reference signal for antenna switching.
  • The configuration includes information about the type of time division cover coding for repetitions of the reference signal and the type of frequency hopping.
  • Based on the configuration and the type of frequency hopping, the UE determines a reference signal resource for transmitting the reference signal.
  • The UE then transmits a set of repetitions of the reference signal over the determined reference signal resource using the specified type of time division cover coding.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Wireless communication systems and devices can benefit from improved antenna switching techniques.
  • This technology can enhance the performance and efficiency of wireless networks by optimizing the use of reference signals.
  • It can be applied in various wireless communication standards, such as 4G LTE and 5G, to improve signal quality and coverage.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Antenna switching is crucial for maintaining a strong and stable wireless connection, especially in scenarios with multiple antennas.
  • The use of cover coding for SRS resources helps in accurately determining the best antenna for transmission, reducing interference and improving signal quality.
  • This technology addresses the challenge of efficiently utilizing reference signals for antenna switching in wireless communication systems.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved antenna switching techniques lead to enhanced signal quality, coverage, and overall performance of wireless networks.
  • The use of cover coding for SRS resources enables more accurate and efficient determination of the best antenna for transmission.
  • By optimizing the use of reference signals, this technology can help reduce interference and enhance the reliability of wireless communication systems.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may use cover coding for sounding reference signal (SRS) resources for performing antenna switching. The UE may receive a configuration for a reference signal resource set for transmitting a reference signal for antenna switching, the configuration including an indication of a type of time division cover coding for repetitions of the reference signal and an indication of a type of frequency hopping. The UE may determine a reference signal resource for transmission of the reference signal based on the configuration and the type of frequency hopping. The UE may then transmit a set of repetitions of the reference signal over the determined reference signal resource according to the type of time division cover coding.
