CONTROLLER CONTROLLING NON-VOLATILE MEMORY DEVICE, STORAGE DEVICE INCLUDING THE SAME, AND OPERATING METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17740794 titled 'CONTROLLER CONTROLLING NON-VOLATILE MEMORY DEVICE, STORAGE DEVICE INCLUDING THE SAME, AND OPERATING METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an operating method for a storage device. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • The method involves receiving a read command from a host device.
  • It identifies whether the read command corresponds to a specific type of read path called a first direct memory access (DMA) read path.
  • If it is a first DMA read path, the method directly outputs the read data from an error correction circuit to the host device using a host DMA manager.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This operating method can be applied in various storage devices such as hard drives, solid-state drives (SSDs), or memory cards.
  • It can improve the efficiency and speed of data retrieval from the storage device, enhancing overall system performance.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Traditional methods of data retrieval from storage devices may involve multiple steps and data transfers, leading to increased latency and reduced performance.
  • By directly outputting the read data from the error correction circuit to the host device, this method eliminates unnecessary data transfers and reduces latency.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved data retrieval speed: By directly outputting the read data, the method reduces the time required for data transfer, resulting in faster access to stored information.
  • Enhanced system performance: The reduction in latency and improved data retrieval speed contribute to overall system performance improvement.
  • Simplified data retrieval process: The method eliminates unnecessary steps and data transfers, streamlining the data retrieval process and making it more efficient.

Original Abstract Submitted

An operating method of a storage device is provided. The operating method includes: receiving a host read command from a host device; identifying whether a read path corresponding to the host read command corresponds to a first direct memory access (DMA) read path; and directly outputting, by a host DMA manager, read data stored in an output buffer of an error correction circuit to the host device based on the read path corresponding to the first DMA read path.
