POWER TRANSMISSION APPARATUS OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17708906 titled 'POWER TRANSMISSION APPARATUS OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a power transmission apparatus for an electric vehicle that includes a motor shaft, two input shafts, front and rear wheel driving devices, shifting sections, and a mode conversion unit.

  • The motor shaft is connected to the drive motor and receives its torque.
  • There are two input shafts, the first one is selectively connected to the motor shaft and the second one is coaxially disposed with the first one and also selectively connected to the motor shaft.
  • The front and rear wheel driving devices are responsible for driving the front and rear wheels of the vehicle.
  • The first shifting section shifts the torque of the first input shaft and selectively transmits it to the front wheel driving device.
  • The second shifting section shifts the torque of the second input shaft and selectively outputs it.
  • The mode conversion unit transfers the output torque of the second shifting section to either the front wheel driving device or the rear wheel driving device.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Electric vehicles: This power transmission apparatus can be used in electric vehicles to efficiently transfer torque from the drive motor to the wheels.
  • Hybrid vehicles: The apparatus can also be applied in hybrid vehicles that have both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Efficient torque transfer: The apparatus allows for efficient transfer of torque from the drive motor to the wheels, improving the overall performance and energy efficiency of the vehicle.
  • Selective torque distribution: The shifting sections and mode conversion unit enable selective distribution of torque to the front and rear wheels, enhancing the vehicle's traction and stability.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved performance: The efficient torque transfer and selective torque distribution contribute to improved acceleration, handling, and overall performance of the vehicle.
  • Energy efficiency: The optimized torque transfer helps to minimize energy losses and maximize the vehicle's range.
  • Enhanced traction and stability: The selective torque distribution allows for better traction and stability, especially in challenging road conditions.

Original Abstract Submitted

A power transmission apparatus of an electric vehicle includes a motor shaft fixed to a drive motor and receiving the torque of the drive motor, a first input shaft disposed on a same axis with and selectively connectable to the motor shaft, a second input shaft coaxially disposed with the first input shaft, and selectively connectable to the motor shaft, front and rear wheel driving devices for driving front and wheels, a first shifting section for shifting a torque of the first input shaft and selectively transmit the shifted torque to the front wheel driving device, a second shifting section for shifting a torque of the second input shaft and selectively output the shifted torque, and a mode conversion unit of transferring an output torque of the second shifting section to at least one of the front wheel driving device and the rear wheel driving device.
