COMPUTING DEVICE FOR PERFORMING DIGITAL PULSE-BASED CROSSBAR OPERATION AND METHOD OF OPERATING THE COMPUTING DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17702170 titled 'COMPUTING DEVICE FOR PERFORMING DIGITAL PULSE-BASED CROSSBAR OPERATION AND METHOD OF OPERATING THE COMPUTING DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a computing device and method for performing a digital pulse-based crossbar operation. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • The computing device has multiple input lines and output lines that intersect each other.
  • Pulses are selectively input to the input lines based on corresponding input signals.
  • Each cross point between an input line and an output line has an element that transfers a pulse from the input line to the output line if the corresponding weight is a first value.
  • Pulse counters are used to count the number of pulses output from each output line.

Potential Applications:

  • High-speed data routing: The computing device can be used in networking systems to efficiently route data packets based on pulse inputs.
  • Signal processing: It can be utilized in digital signal processing applications to manipulate and process digital signals.
  • Parallel computing: The device can be integrated into parallel computing architectures to enhance performance and data transfer.

Problems Solved:

  • Efficient data routing: The computing device solves the problem of efficiently routing data by using a digital pulse-based crossbar operation.
  • Scalability: The device can be easily scaled up to accommodate a large number of input and output lines, making it suitable for complex systems.

Benefits:

  • Speed and efficiency: The digital pulse-based crossbar operation allows for fast and efficient data transfer and processing.
  • Flexibility: The device can handle different input signals and weights, making it adaptable to various applications.
  • Scalability: The computing device can be easily scaled up or down depending on the system requirements.

Overall, this patent application presents a computing device and method that can efficiently perform digital pulse-based crossbar operations, offering potential benefits in data routing, signal processing, and parallel computing.

Original Abstract Submitted

A computing device for performing a digital pulse-based crossbar operation and a method of operating the computing device. The computing device includes a plurality of input lines to which a pulse is selectively input in a sequential manner based on a corresponding input signal; a plurality of output lines crossing the input lines; a plurality of elements, each element being disposed at a cross point between a corresponding input line and a corresponding output line to transfer, to the corresponding output line, a pulse input to the corresponding input line in response to a corresponding weight being a first value; and a plurality of pulse counters, each pulse counter counting a number of pulses output from a corresponding output line.
