DEPLOYMENT OF INTELLIGENT REFLECTING SURFACES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17643115 titled 'DEPLOYMENT OF INTELLIGENT REFLECTING SURFACES

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a patent application related to a node (possibly a mobile terminal unit) receiving indications of different configurations for an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) from a base station. Each configuration may include a surface phase configuration and is associated with one or more destination IRS tiles. The node then routes these indications to the corresponding IRS tiles based on the destination information.

  • The patent application focuses on the routing of IRS configurations from a base station to specific IRS tiles connected to a node.
  • The IRS configurations may include surface phase configurations, which are important for optimizing wireless communication.
  • The node (possibly a mobile terminal unit) receives indications of the IRS configurations from the base station.
  • Each IRS configuration is associated with one or more destination IRS tiles.
  • The node routes the indications to the corresponding IRS tiles based on the destination information.

Potential Applications

  • Wireless communication systems utilizing intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS).
  • Mobile terminal units or devices that can receive and process IRS configurations.
  • Networks where IRS tiles are used to enhance signal strength or coverage.

Problems Solved

  • Efficient routing of IRS configurations to the appropriate IRS tiles.
  • Optimization of wireless communication using IRS configurations.
  • Simplifying the process of configuring and managing IRS tiles in a network.

Benefits

  • Improved wireless communication performance through optimized IRS configurations.
  • Enhanced signal strength and coverage in areas where IRS tiles are deployed.
  • Streamlined management and configuration of IRS tiles in a network.

Original Abstract Submitted

A node may receive, from a base station, one or more indications of one or more IRS configurations. The node may correspond to an MT unit. At least one of the one or more IRS configurations may include a surface phase configuration. Each of the one or more IRS configurations may be associated with at least one destination IRS tile. The node may route the one or more indications of the one or more IRS configurations to one or more IRS tiles of a plurality of IRS tiles connected to the node based on one or more indications of one or more destination IRS tiles associated with the one or more IRS configurations.
