METHOD FOR MANAGING NETWORK FAILURES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17603735 titled 'METHOD FOR MANAGING NETWORK FAILURES

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for a terminal to access a public land mobile network (PLMN) by transmitting a request message to a network node via a base station. The base station belongs to a different PLMN that broadcasts information about the first PLMN. The terminal receives a response message from the network node indicating a service failure in the first PLMN. Based on this information, the terminal can either send a second request message to the second PLMN or select another PLMN instead of the one with the service failure.

  • The method allows a terminal to access a PLMN even if there is a service failure in the first PLMN.
  • The terminal can receive information about the first PLMN from a different PLMN's base station.
  • The terminal can make an informed decision on whether to try accessing the first PLMN again or select an alternative PLMN based on the response message received.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied in mobile communication networks to improve network access and availability for terminals.
  • It can be useful in areas where there are multiple PLMNs and service failures may occur in one of them.
  • The method can enhance the user experience by enabling terminals to quickly switch to an alternative PLMN when there is a service failure.

Problems Solved

  • The method solves the problem of terminals being unable to access a PLMN due to service failures.
  • It addresses the issue of terminals being unaware of service failures in a PLMN they are trying to connect to.
  • It provides a solution for terminals to easily switch to an alternative PLMN when there is a service failure in the desired PLMN.

Benefits

  • Improved network access and availability for terminals.
  • Enhanced user experience by minimizing service disruptions.
  • Efficient utilization of available PLMNs by enabling terminals to select the most reliable network.

Original Abstract Submitted

A disclosure according to the present specification provides a method of having an access by a terminal subscribing to a first public land mobile network (PLMN). The method may comprise a step of transmitting a first request message to a network node via a base station. The base station may be a base station of a second PLMN that broadcasts system information including information about the first PLMN. The method may comprise a step of receiving, from the network node, a first response message that is a response to the first request message. The first response message may include information indicating that there is a service failure in the first PLMN. The method may comprise a step of transmitting a second request message to the second PLMN or reselecting another PLMN instead of the first PLMN, which has a service failure, on the basis of the first response message including the information.
