Systems and Methods for Providing Network Indications for Selecting Asymmetric Uplink (UL) Antenna Panels at User Equipment (UE) - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17593809 titled 'Systems and Methods for Providing Network Indications for Selecting Asymmetric Uplink (UL) Antenna Panels at User Equipment (UE)

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for wireless communication that involves a base station and a user device with multiple antenna panels. Here are the key points:

  • The base station receives a capability report from each antenna panel of the user device, as well as an initial antenna panel index.
  • The base station transmits configuration information for each antenna panel to the user device.
  • The user device selects the configuration information for the antenna panel with the initial index.
  • The user device then sends an uplink transmission using the selected antenna panel and its corresponding configuration information.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Wireless communication systems that involve multiple antenna panels in user devices.
  • Networks where base stations need to efficiently configure and communicate with user devices with multiple antenna panels.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Simplifies the process of configuring and communicating with user devices that have multiple antenna panels.
  • Ensures that the user device uses the correct configuration information for the selected antenna panel.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved efficiency in wireless communication systems.
  • Enhanced performance and reliability in networks with user devices that have multiple antenna panels.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method for wireless communication includes: receiving, at a base station: (1) a capability report for each of a plurality of antenna panels of a first user device; and (2) an initial antenna panel index for the first user device; transmitting, to the first user device, configuration information corresponding to each antenna panel of the plurality; selecting first configuration information corresponding to the antenna panel with the initial antenna panel index; and receiving a first uplink transmission from the first user device, wherein the first user device uses a selected first antenna panel corresponding to the initial antenna panel index and the first configuration information corresponding to the selected first antenna panel. In other aspects, rather than initially transmitting configuration information corresponding to each antenna panel, the base station may transmit the configuration information for each panel as it is selected by the first user device for an uplink transmission.
