METHOD AND APPARATUS WITH IMAGE PROCESSING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17572908 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS WITH IMAGE PROCESSING

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method and apparatus for image processing using infrared rays. The method involves analyzing input images dependent on different phases of infrared rays to determine a real part image, an imaginary part image, and an offset image. Noise is then removed from the real and imaginary part images using the offset image as a guide for noise removal. Finally, a depth image is generated based on the improved real and imaginary part images.

  • The method involves analyzing input images dependent on different phases of infrared rays.
  • Real part image, imaginary part image, and offset image are determined based on the input images.
  • Noise is removed from the real and imaginary part images using the offset image as a guide.
  • A depth image is generated based on the improved real and imaginary part images.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be used in various applications that require depth sensing and image processing.
  • It can be applied in surveillance systems to enhance image quality and extract depth information.
  • It can be used in robotics for object detection and navigation.
  • Medical imaging applications can benefit from this technology for improved depth perception and noise reduction.

Problems Solved

  • The method solves the problem of noise in infrared images by using an offset image as a guide for noise removal.
  • It addresses the challenge of accurately determining depth information from infrared images by improving the real and imaginary part images.
  • The technology solves the problem of limited depth perception in traditional image processing methods.

Benefits

  • The method improves the quality of infrared images by removing noise and enhancing depth perception.
  • It provides a more accurate representation of depth information in infrared images.
  • The technology can be implemented in real-time systems, enabling faster and more efficient image processing.
  • It offers potential cost savings by reducing the need for additional hardware or sensors for depth sensing.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method and apparatus with image processing are disclosed. The method includes determining a real part image, an imaginary part image, and an offset image based on input images that are dependent on infrared rays of different phases, removing noise from each of the real part image and the imaginary part image using the offset image as a noise removal guide, and generating a depth image based on an improved real part image and an improved imaginary part image corresponding to respective results of the removing.
