Determining Drag Reducing Agents' Performance - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17550863 titled 'Determining Drag Reducing Agents' Performance

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a system and method for evaluating the performance of a drag reducing agent in a mixture. The system includes a measuring instrument with a rheometer and a sensor system positioned inside the instrument. The sensor system consists of a body with an open end and an extended end, a cover with inner and outer discs, and a rotating disc with a bar and a plate. The body and cover form a sealable chamber, and the rotating disc measures the performance of the drag reducing agent in the mixture. A data acquisition and processing system is in electronic communication with the measuring instrument and the sensor system.

  • The system includes a measuring instrument with a rheometer and a sensor system.
  • The sensor system consists of a body, a cover, and a rotating disc.
  • The body and cover form a sealable chamber.
  • The rotating disc measures the performance of the drag reducing agent in the mixture.
  • A data acquisition and processing system is in electronic communication with the measuring instrument and the sensor system.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Evaluating the effectiveness of drag reducing agents in various mixtures.
  • Optimizing the performance of drag reducing agents in industrial processes.
  • Developing new drag reducing agents with improved performance.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Lack of a reliable and accurate method for evaluating the performance of drag reducing agents.
  • Difficulty in comparing the effectiveness of different drag reducing agents.
  • Inefficient use of drag reducing agents in industrial processes.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Provides a precise and standardized method for evaluating drag reducing agents.
  • Enables the optimization of drag reducing agent performance in various mixtures.
  • Facilitates the development of more efficient and effective drag reducing agents.

Original Abstract Submitted

Systems and methods for evaluating a drag reducing agent's performance in a mixture are described. The system includes a measuring instrument with an rheometer; and a sensor system positioned inside the measuring instrument including a body with an open end and an extended end, wherein the extended end is directly attached to the measuring instrument; a cover with an inner disc and an outer disc and attachable to the body, the inner disc sized to be received by the open end of the body; the body and the cover form a sealable chamber; and a rotating disc with a bar and a plate, the bar is attached to the measuring instrument and the plate is positioned inside the body and operable to measure drag reducing agent's performance of the mixture; and a data acquisition and processing system is in electronic communication with the measuring instrument, and the sensor system.
