COMMUNICATIONS STATE SWITCHING OF A BASE STATION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17550782 titled 'COMMUNICATIONS STATE SWITCHING OF A BASE STATION

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications. It focuses on a base station that enters a communication state with a capability limitation, such as a power saving mode, where it does not support certain communications applications. The base station communicates this limitation to a user equipment (UE) and adjusts its communication with the UE accordingly. Additionally, the base station can update the SPS configuration or configured grant for scheduled communications with the UE based on the capability limitation.

  • The patent application focuses on wireless communications and addresses the issue of capability limitations in base stations.
  • It introduces a method for base stations to enter a communication state with a capability limitation, such as a power saving mode, where certain communications applications are not supported.
  • The base station communicates this limitation to the user equipment (UE) through a message, allowing the UE to adjust its communication accordingly.
  • The patent application also addresses scheduled communications with the UE and provides a method for the base station to update the SPS configuration or configured grant based on the capability limitation.
  • This technology aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of wireless communications by managing capability limitations in base stations.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various wireless communication systems, including:

  • Cellular networks
  • Wi-Fi networks
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices
  • Satellite communications

Problems Solved

This technology solves the following problems:

  • Inefficient use of resources when base stations enter a communication state with capability limitations.
  • Lack of communication between base stations and user equipment regarding capability limitations.
  • Inability to adjust scheduled communications based on capability limitations.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include:

  • Improved power saving capabilities in base stations, leading to energy efficiency.
  • Enhanced communication efficiency between base stations and user equipment.
  • Optimal utilization of resources and improved overall performance in wireless communication systems.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A base station may identify that the base station is going to enter a communication state associated with a capability limitation where the base station does not support at least one communications application while operating in the communication state. The communication state may be a power saving mode. The base station may transmit a message to a user equipment (UE) indicating the capability limitation(s) associated with the communication state, and communicate with the UE according to the capability limitation(s). The base station may identify that the base station has scheduled communications with a UE in accordance with an SPS configuration or a configured grant. The base station may transmit a message to the UE indicating an update for the SPS configuration or the configured grant based on a capability limitation associated with the communication state.
