TUNE AWAY OCCASION SUSPENSION FOR MULTI-SUBSCRIBER IDENTITY MODULE OPERATION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17550089 titled 'TUNE AWAY OCCASION SUSPENSION FOR MULTI-SUBSCRIBER IDENTITY MODULE OPERATION

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications. It focuses on a wireless communications system where a user equipment (UE) can transmit control signaling to a base station associated with a first subscription. This signaling indicates a configuration for a set of tune away occasions, during which the UE is supposed to switch from the first subscription to a second subscription to monitor for paging signaling.

  • The UE transmits control signaling to the base station, indicating a configuration for tune away occasions.
  • The configuration specifies when the UE should switch from the first subscription to the second subscription to monitor for paging signaling.
  • The UE then transmits second control signaling to suspend one or multiple tune away occasions based on the configuration.
  • The suspension indicates that the UE should refrain from switching away from the first subscription during the suspended tune away occasions.
  • As a result of transmitting the second control signaling, the UE can communicate data with the base station and does not need to monitor for paging signaling during the suspended tune away occasion.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied in wireless communication systems where multiple subscriptions are used by a single user equipment.
  • It can be beneficial in scenarios where the UE needs to monitor for paging signaling on a second subscription while still maintaining communication on the first subscription.

Problems Solved

  • This technology solves the problem of efficiently managing tune away occasions in wireless communication systems.
  • It allows the UE to suspend tune away occasions and focus on communication with the base station, reducing the need for constant monitoring for paging signaling.

Benefits

  • The UE can effectively manage its subscriptions and prioritize communication over monitoring for paging signaling.
  • By suspending tune away occasions, the UE can dedicate more resources to data communication with the base station.
  • This technology improves the efficiency and reliability of wireless communication systems with multiple subscriptions.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In a wireless communications system, a user equipment (UE) may transmit, to a base station associated with a first subscription, first control signaling indicating a configuration for a set of tune away occasions in which the UE is to tune away from the first subscription to a second subscription to monitor for paging signaling for the second subscription. The UE may transmit second control signaling a suspension of one or multiple tune away occasions based on the configuration, the suspension indicating that the UE may refrain from tuning away from the first subscription during the tune away occasions. Based on transmitting the second control signaling, the UE may communicate data with the base station and refrain from monitoring for the paging signaling during the suspended tune away occasion.
