CAPABILITY-BASED CELL PRIORITIZATION FOR CELL SELECTION AND RESELECTION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17543017 titled 'CAPABILITY-BASED CELL PRIORITIZATION FOR CELL SELECTION AND RESELECTION

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • The patent application focuses on user equipment (UE) in wireless communications.
  • The UE identifies a group of cells that are available for cell selection or reselection.
  • The group of cells is divided into two subsets: the first subset includes cells with at least one capability, and the second subset includes other cells.
  • Each cell within the first subset is assigned a higher priority than each cell within the second subset based on its capability.
  • The UE selects a cell from the group of cells based on the assigned priorities and attempts to connect to that cell.
  • The UE also stores the assigned priorities in a data structure.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Wireless communication systems and devices can benefit from the methods and systems described in the patent application.
  • The technology can be applied in various wireless communication networks, such as cellular networks, to improve cell selection and reselection processes.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The technology addresses the issue of efficient cell selection or reselection in wireless communication systems.
  • By assigning priorities based on cell capabilities, the UE can make more informed decisions and select cells that offer desired capabilities.

Benefits of this technology:

  • The technology improves the overall performance and efficiency of wireless communication systems.
  • Users can experience better connectivity and faster data transfer rates by selecting cells with desired capabilities.
  • The assigned priorities help optimize the UE's connection and ensure a more seamless user experience.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may identify a group of cells available for cell selection or reselection, where the group of cells includes a first subset of cells that each have at least one capability (e.g., of a set of capabilities) and a second subset of cells. The UE may assign a relatively higher respective priority to each cell within the first subset of cells than each cell within the second subset of cells based on each cell within the first subset of cells having at least one capability. The UE may select a cell from the group of cells based on the respective priority and may attempt to camp on the selected cell. Additionally, the UE may store the assigned respective priorities in a data structure at the UE.
